The GO-Forward project (Geothermal Exploration and Optimization through Forward Modelling and Resource Development) was launched in September 2024 with a budget of €4.26 million and will run for 48 months until August 2028. The consortium includes nine beneficiary partners from six European countries, along with three associated partners, including Swiss Geo Energy.
Paromita Deb, SGE’s Project Manager and Senior Geophysicist, will represent the company in this international collaboration. Thanks to the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) who has committed to fund Swiss Geo Energy's participation in this project.
The GO-Forward project aims to develop innovative computer simulation methods that can predict underground reservoir conditions using machine learning. By modelling the geological processes that formed these reservoirs over millions of years, the project helps geothermal developers understand what lies beneath the surface without expensive initial drilling. These approaches aim to significantly reduce the financial risk and cost of geothermal exploration, making clean geothermal energy projects more viable and attractive to investors.
Swiss Geo Energy will contribute its expertise in geothermal exploration and reservoir characterisation, particularly in carbonate environments within the Swiss Molasse Basin, which serves as one of the project's test sites.
